Review
CyberSpyder Link Test is a Web site management program to be used for verifying that the URLs on a site are not broken and for analyzing site content. It is designed to be used on sites of all sizes; from the very small personal or business Web site with only a few pages, to the very large corporate site with thousands of links.
This version is multi-threaded, meaning that it is considerably faster than previous versions. |
What's new in version 3.5
New or Changed Features
Added code so that, after an initial New Test has been run,when a site is Rechecked, a count is kept of the number of times a URL has been found broken. This count will be shown on the Result reports for broken links.
Removed the Winsock button. This was a leftover from dial-up days when there were several versions of Winsock in use. It no longer serves any purpose.
Removed the News button as this was seldom used. Instead, the program will now periodically (about every 10 days) do an automatic check to see if there are any updates available. (Note that this requires a valid Internet connection to work)
Changed the Site Map and Site File Structure reports so that (**No File Name**) is inserted if there is not file name to use. This situation can arise when a URL does not contain a file name - this can be a good link because the Web server will return the content of the default file used by it in such cases but there is no way for CyberSpyder Link Test to know the name of this file.
Bug fixes
Added some additional "protection" code to prevent conflicts between program threads. Since this code was added, there have been no crashes in any of the tests run so I hope this eliminates the crashing problem.
Fixed a problem in the Result Reports when all results were listed together that caused items internally marked as NOT DONE (i.e. not tested) to be included in the reports.
Fixed a problem in the Result Reports when all results were listed together so that the count of redirects is included with the count of good links.
Fixed an error in parsing that caused some encode character that were encoded with Hex values to be incorrectly handled.
Fixed an error that would cause the parsing of a page to fail if it encountered a meta element in the form
(no url value).
The parsing will now handle this correctly.
When the program is configured to allow only a single set of reports in the report directory, and the program reached the end of a test, the program was supposed to warn before it deleted any existing reports in that directory but it did not. That has been correct so that the warning is given except when:
the run is the result of a delayed start
or there are no other reports in the directory.
Fixed some problems with Result Reports when the reports were being sorted by Result Code or by Page URL showing links.
Fixed a number of problems with printed reports including a format problem when listing results by Result Code.
Fixed a bug so that an encoded space (%20) in a URL is retained (it was being removed, making the request to the Web server invalid).
Added code to allow the use of the underline (_) character in a host name. (It is not really valid, but sometimes a domain name is registered using the underline.) |
